About History Decoded

An independent publication dedicated to explaining the decisions, mistakes and turning points that shaped the modern world.

What History Decoded Does

History Decoded publishes in-depth articles, short-form videos and a weekly newsletter focused on the mechanisms behind major historical events — not just what happened, but why systems, institutions and individuals produced the outcomes they did.

The publication exists because history is most interesting when it explains how structures, incentives and information flows shape outcomes. Most history content focuses on events. History Decoded focuses on mechanisms.

Editorial Approach

Every article on this site is researched using a combination of primary sources, academic works and reputable historical publications. Where sources disagree — as they frequently do — we note the disagreement and present the most widely supported interpretation, while acknowledging competing views.

We distinguish between what is established historical record and what is interpretation. We note when historical consensus has shifted or when significant scholarly debate exists. We do not present contested interpretations as settled fact.

Every article includes a sources and further reading section listing the primary and secondary sources used in its research.

Who Writes History Decoded

History Decoded is produced by the History Decoded Editorial Team. Articles are researched and written to a consistent editorial standard, with each piece reviewed against primary and secondary sources before publication.

The publication also operates a TikTok channel (@history__decoded) where short-form video content covers the same material.

Affiliate Disclosure

History Decoded participates in affiliate programmes including Amazon Associates and Awin. When we recommend a book and provide a link, we may earn a small commission if you purchase through that link. This does not affect the price you pay and never influences our editorial recommendations — we only recommend books we genuinely consider worth your time.
